Prayer for Mercy

God our Father,
You are rich in mercy,
Overflowing with compassion,
And eager to forgive.

You have created all life,
Entrusting each person to the mercy
Of his or her mother’s womb.

Yet our nation
Has allowed that life to be taken
From its safest place.

We have pretended that the decree of a Court
Makes it all right to kill your children.
Now we approach that date
When each year we remember that tragic decision.

Lord, as your people prepare
To pray, to march, and to work
To end the tragedy of abortion,
Make us a sign of your great mercy.

Make us instruments through which
Your forgiveness will heal our land
And convert those who tolerate abortion.

Bring our courts before Your Court,
And our hearts before Your heart,
And purify us completely.

Give us, individually and as a nation,
The joy of holiness,
The peace of salvation,
And the blessing of life eternal,
Through Christ our Lord. Amen!
